Defense in commercial litigation
Receiving a lawsuit requires a prompt review of the claim, how it was served and the documents supporting the company’s position. A sound defense begins with organizing the facts and understanding the court record.
At Bernal Aquino, we represent businesses and business owners in commercial disputes. We analyze the claim and its background to prepare a response that addresses the procedural, financial and operational risks to the business.
Our approach to the matter
We study the complaint, its exhibits, service of process and the available court record. We identify the relief sought, the stage of proceedings and the deadlines applicable to the case to prioritize the first decisions.
Documents for the initial review
- The complete complaint, exhibits and documents received with service of process.
- The date and circumstances of service, and court case details.
- Contracts, payment records and correspondence about the transaction.
- Earlier court filings and rulings, if proceedings are already underway.
If you have already been served, mention it when contacting us and retain all the documents delivered. Reviewing the court record allows us to establish deadlines and the scope of our involvement; different cases follow different procedures.
